Beyond The Brief began as a passion project. Today, it is evolving into a legal media and knowledge platform with a simple belief: meaningful conversations have the power to educate long after they are recorded.

Rather than chasing headlines or reacting to every new judgment, we focus on conversations that help students navigate law school, professionals share decades of experience, institutions showcase their vision, and individuals better understand the law that shapes their lives.

Every conversation, article and collaboration becomes part of a growing knowledge repository designed to remain valuable for years to come. Beyond The Brief isn't just documenting the legal profession — we're preserving its stories, lessons and collective wisdom.

The founder's story

Beyond The Brief wasn't born in a studio.

It began on a small foldable bed in a paying guest accommodation, with an eight-year-old Dell laptop, no lighting setup, no microphone collection, no industry network and no blueprint. Just an idea.

As a fourth-year law student, I wanted to create something different — something that would help law students learn directly from people who had already walked the path they hoped to follow.

Three days after the idea came to me, I recorded the very first episode over Zoom with one of my college seniors. Looking back, I still don't know where I found the courage to hit publish on 1 January 2024.

What I did have was curiosity. I genuinely wanted to ask thoughtful questions, understand people's journeys, and uncover lessons that often never make it into classrooms or textbooks. Those conversations slowly became something far more valuable than I had imagined.

Today, Beyond The Brief has become more than a podcast. It has become a part of my identity — and the foundation of a much larger vision. We're just getting started. One conversation at a time.

The vision

I don't want Beyond The Brief to become another legal media platform chasing trends or reporting every headline. I want it to become a place people return to years later because the conversations still matter.

A conversation with a judge should help someone understand not only a moot proposition but also the legal principles shaping our times. A conversation with an organising committee should teach leadership, teamwork and the unseen effort behind large-scale events. A conversation with a dean should reveal an institution's philosophy and its approach to shaping future lawyers. A conversation with a founder should inspire the next generation to build.

If those conversations continue helping people years after they are recorded, we've achieved our purpose. That is the Beyond The Brief I'm building.
